Recycling Program Overview
Brandon residents are keen to recycle. Now recycling is even easier with the introduction of a more convenient program.
Remember the advantages of recycling: resources and energy saved; pollution and greenhousPutting blue bag in garbagee gases reduced; local employment and economic benefits generated; the life of our landfill extended. All this from materials which otherwise would have been thrown in the garbage!
The Westman Recycling Council had constructed a new recycling facility at the Eastview Landfill. The new facility will mean better recycling in Brandon. This new initiative is supported by the City of Brandon and the Canada - Manitoba Infrastructure Program.
The program includes:
  • New drop-off depots
  • Convenient household pick-up option
  • Easier plastics recycling
  • More recycling for businesses and institutions
  • Community education and involvement
Blue / Clear Bag pick up

Here's how to do it: Sort paper into one blue bag, containers such as plastics and cans into another blue bag, yard waste into a clear bag. For paper, you can include any kind, such as newspaper, magazines, phone books, office paper, and cereal boxes. Cardboard too big to bag can be put in loose. (All other waste goes into a regular black or green garbage bag.) Tie all bags securely and toss in your back lane bin or front drive cart.

Drop-off depots where you can drop off:
  • Paper (newspapers, magazines, phone books, office paper, and cardboard)
  • Containers (aluminum and tin cans, plastics, milk and juice cartons)
  • Glass bottles and jars

The drop off locations are:

  • Canada Games Sportsplex
  • 34th Street and Victoria Avenue (in the lane at the NE corner)
  • Westridge Community Centre on Willowdale Crescent
  • 1st Street and Richmond Avenue (in the lane at the NE corner)
  • Rideau Park, 400 block Franklin Street
  • Brandon Sun, 6th Street and Pacific Avenue (no yard waste)
  • Eastview Landfill (no charge for cardboard, paper, glass, containers, grass and leaves)
  • Capitol Theatre (no yard waste)
Easier Plastics Recycling:

Forget about numbers and symbols! You can now include all plastic bottles and containers, except "styrofoam." Examples of acceptable plastics are soft drink bottles, milk jugs, margarine tubs and lids.

More Recycling for Businesses and Institutions

With our new facility operating, there are more opportunities for businesses and institutions to recycle waste materials, especially cardboard.
